Jade DeFehr, B.A. (Hons), B.C.L., J.D.

Jade DeFehr is a criminal defence lawyer who understands the importance of forming the strongest defence possible when individuals are facing the full power of the state. She provides timely, effective services and ensures each client receives the information they need throughout the progress of their case.

Criminal Defence Practitioner

Jade DeFehr is a criminal defence lawyer at Simmonds and Associates. She fights for clients’ rights at every step of the process, whether they are facing a first-time charge, restrictive bail conditions, or a lengthy prison sentence. She works diligently to secure the best possible outcome while honouring people’s dignity and life experience. Her practice is informed by harm reduction and transformative justice principles.
 
Jade holds a Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Civil Law from the McGill Faculty of Law in Montreal. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Women’s and Gender Studies (Honours Gold Medalist) and English from the University of Winnipeg. Her history of advocacy includes serving as Vice-President Student Affairs for the University of Winnipeg Students’ Association and organizing for environmental and social justice with groups such as Manitoba Energy Justice Coalition, Divest UWinnipeg, RadLaw McGill, and Resource Movement.
 
She completed her articles with Legal Aid Manitoba at the Phoenix Community Law Centre. Prior to articling, Jade worked as a summer student at West Coast Environmental Law in Vancouver and the Samuelson-Glushko Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic (CIPPIC) at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law. She is a member of the Law Society of Manitoba and the Canadian Prison Law Association.
 
Jade accepts Legal Aid certificates as part of her practice.
